Empowering Farmers Through
Sustainable & Profitable Farming Practices

Agriculture - Krishi Vikas

Through its Krishi Vikas initiative, PHD Rural Development Foundation (PHDRDF) enables farmers to adopt modern, climate-resilient and income-boosting agricultural techniques. By promoting fruit plantation, organic farming, livestock-based livelihoods and market linkages, the program enhances farm productivity and ensures stable income for rural households.

PHDRDF implements Krishi Vikas as a last-mile, community-driven programme, translating policy objectives into practical, on-ground action. The initiative integrates agriculture, water management, horticulture, and allied livelihoods to build resilient farming systems that are environmentally sustainable and economically viable.

AGRICULTURE INTERVENTIONS

Programme Components

Training and capacity building on Good Agricultural Practices, soil health, crop management, and climate-resilient farming

Demonstration farms and crop trials to promote improved seed varieties and farming techniques

Natural resource management through water conservation and groundwater recharge

Promotion of off-farm and allied livelihoods such as dairy, vermi-composting, biogas, and bio-resource centers

Horticulture and fruit plantation to diversify incomes and enhance long-term farm profitability

Women-centric livelihood initiatives and farmer collectives to strengthen participation and ownership

PWABHI

Partners for Water Access and Better Harvest in India

A Key Initiative under Krishi Vikas
PWABHI is a flagship initiative under PHDRDF’s Krishi Vikas programme, designed to address the interconnected challenges of water scarcity, agricultural productivity, and rural livelihoods in water-stressed regions of Rajasthan. The initiative adopts an integrated and community-driven approach to strengthen water security, improve soil health, and enhance farm incomes

Key Focus Areas under PWABHI
1. Natural Resource Management
PWABHI strengthens water availability through construction of check dams, traditional rainwater harvesting structures, pond rejuvenation, and desilting activities. These interventions have enhanced groundwater recharge, improved irrigation potential, and reduced water stress for agriculture and domestic use, benefiting thousands of households.
2. Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods
The initiative supports farmers through soil testing, vermi-composting units, bio-resource centres, crop demonstrations, and promotion of organic and low-input farming practices. Fruit plantation and horticulture development form a key component, helping farmers diversify crops and build stable, long-term income streams.
3. Training and Capacity Building
PWABHI places strong emphasis on knowledge transfer and community institutions. Farmers receive training at village and panchayat levels, participate in exposure visits, and are organised into Water User Groups and Farmer Interest Groups. Specialised training programmes for women farmers further strengthen participation, skills, and decision-making in agriculture.
